The Rugby for Rocco’s Day in aid of St Rocco’s Hospice will take place at Monks Sports Club, Hillock Lane, Woolston on Saturday 29th June and promises to be a fun-filled occasion with plenty of events taking place on the day, culminating in a Warrington Legends XIII side taking on Woolston Rovers.
Doors open on the day from noon and there will a Junior game taking place; this will be followed by Woolston Rovers Under 15s entertaining Clock Face Miners before the main game that will kick off at 4.00pm. There will also be live music in the evening as well as stalls and rides around the pitch during the day to keep the children entertained.
Woolston Rovers Chairman Steve Moore said, “This should be a really special day and hopefully we can get a big crowd to come along and enjoy the entertainment. The quality that will be in the Warrington Legends side is fantastic and to have them giving their time up to support this event is superb; hopefully everybody who comes along will have a great time.”
The Warrington Legends side will have some real star quality in its ranks led by current Wire Head Coach Steve Price along with former Woolston Rovers stars Mark Forster and Chris Riley, who went on to wear the Primrose & Blue with distinction for many years.
Adrian Morley will also be putting his boots back on for the occasion and he send a video out via the events Facebook page saying “Leave your cars at home cos there’s live music and we can have a few beers!”
Katie Lawson, Community fundraiser from St Roccos Hopsice said “We’re really excited about the Rugby for Rocco’s event and we’re really grateful that Phil Wrench and his family have chosen to raise vital funds for patient care at St. Rocco’s Hospice. This kind of support from the local community is so important in helping us to continue to care for the community of Warrington when they need us. Warrington Wolves have always been really supportive and it’s great to see so many current and former members of the club turning out alongside Woolston Rovers for our patients and families.”
Phil Wrench from Sadore Construction who is backing the event said “It was a conversation in Monks club with three of us, Steve Moore & Dave Ditchfield, discussing what we could do for Rocco’s and within a week we had a plan and a list of players we wanted to join us. We didn’t get many people who wouldn’t come on board and support the day and we are hoping for a big turnout on the day.”
Tickets are now available for the game. They are £5 Adults and £2 OAPs if bought in advance otherwise the cost on the day is £6 Adults and £3 for OAPs. Kids entry is just £1.
